Dog Photo Challenge ~ Reflection
I love the fun of playing with my dogs and their reflections to take different photos!
The results can be stunning mirror like reflection of them.
Sometimes their reflection reveals something that wouldn’t be seen in the photograph ~ like the side of their face that is turning away from the camera (and towards the reflective surface) or a scene that they are looking at which is reflected in their eyes.
Other times it’s a quirky distorted reflection resulting from a reflective surface that is curved, crinkled or bending (in other words not flat!) or where there are ripples.
And then there is playing with the angle you are to the reflective surface to create an different perspective of your dog. And creating ‘layers’ in your photos by including elements of reflection by photographing your subject through glass.
This week’s dog photo challenge is about capturing their reflections!
This Week’s Photo Challenge Theme: REFLECTION
A reflection in photography is created by a body or surface throwing back the light. There are a number of surfaces that are commonly used to capture a reflection and this includes water (both liquid and frozen as ice), wet surfaces like sand, decking or footpaths, glass, windows, mirrors and sunglasses. Some lesser photographed reflective surfaces (that you might like to try, if you’re up for extra challenge!) include our eyes, your dog’s eyes, christmas baubles, aluminum foil, a spoon, marbles, puddles, bubbles and water droplets.
And, as always, you’re welcome to apply the theme creatively. Maybe it’s a moment of reflection that you capture of your dog!
We can’t wait to check out all your fabulous reflection photos this week!
Some ‘REFLECTION’ Inspiration
In these ‘Reflection’ inspired photos we have:
Top: Our Japanese Spitz Keiko’s reflection in the wet sand at the beach.
Middle: Labradoodle Alfie and Schnoodle Pippa reflected in the lake by the snow; Border Collie puppy reflected in the glass door of an evening and reflected in the lake. Keiko (again!) this time reflected in a mirror that we found in a outdoor art gallery. Border Collie Rosie, when she was the cutest puppy, reflected in the ice at winter.
Bottom: Gorgeous and sleek Weimaraner Tahn (short for Captain!) posing so very elegantly in the water.
Sharing your Photos
Meeting and hearing all about your dogs and the love you have for them makes our day! There’s lots of ways to share your photos for this weeks challenge:
- On Facebook – Post your photo under the theme post when it appears on Facebook.
- On Instagram – Tag your photos that fit the theme with #pt_reflection so we can find them!
- In the Comments – Share your photo in the comments below. If you have photos on other photo sharing sites (like 500px or Flickr) then feel free to leave a link to your photo in the comments.
However you share, don’t forget to include your dogs name/s. If there is a great story, or puppy tale, that goes with your photo them we’d also love to hear it! Especially if you’re sending us something creative and we may not immediately ‘get’ how your photo fits the theme!
