Twist’n Chew Toy

Eddie chews anything she can pick up and take back to her bed. Pens, credit cards, shoes and underwear are amongst her favourites. So I thought one of the first things we should road-test was the Twist’n Chew – a toy designed for chewing!

Description

The Twist’n Chew is a plastic ring with a plastic ball in the centre. The ball spins in two directions and has small raised pegs or spikes that (as it explains on the packaging) massage gums and remove tartar. It also looks a bit like a UFO from outer space.

Durability

We have had it for 5 months and it is still intact apart from a few deformed spikes; much longer than most of the dogs’ plush toys. The packet does say it is great for tough chewers and Eddie gave it a good workout. It has however lost its bacon scent and so has definitely fallen out of favour with the dogs.

Value

I think this is a reasonable price for a toy that should last most dogs multiple play sessions.

Safety

This toy probably needs less supervision than most, unless your dog mangles the spikes and starts to pull them off in little chunks. If this starts to happen it is probably time to retire it for another chew toy.

Pros

  • It’s harder and more durable than a plush toy.
  • It is bacon flavoured of course!

Cons

  • Did I mention it’s BACON FLAVOURED!?

Overall

A great and durable toy for dogs who like to chew things, Cress our non-chewer was not so interested. The bacon flavour adds to the appeal of the toy as does the way the ball spins.
