Here at Puppy Tales we are extremely lucky to have our very own Berlin Pug Correspondent, Carla Hackett. On Saturday she really got to put her skills to good use by attending the 3rd International Berlin Pug Meet in Lankwitz. So let’s hear how the day went!

It seems the pug (or the mops as the Germans call them) craze has taken hold all over the world, including Berlin, with the 3rd International Berliner Mopstreffen (Pug Meetup) being held for all pug lovers and owners alike.

Berliners love their hunde, as noted by the ever present hundescheisse on the streets. Watch your step in Berlin!

Despite a rainy start to the day (hello Berlin summer), the skies cleared for all the pugs to come out and play in Lankwitz, an outer suburb of Berlin, on Saturday.

Pugs relaxing on the grass

Pugs aren’t the most, let’s say, athletic dog breed, but they can do more than just sit around with their tongues out. There were some muddy paws about, but the pugs didn’t seem to mind, competing in a high-stakes pug race complete with a finish line photo of every participating pooch.

Once the serious part was over, the pugs got back to what they do best, running around chasing each other and playing roly-poly.

There were quite a few trendy pugs about, including one wearing a hip ACDC denim vest, whilst many had colourful patterned bandanas to show off their style.

As the pugs played, the owners got to relax on the grass after the race with a well deserved sausage and beer.

Carla is not only a great Mopstreffen Correspondent but she also runs Deutsch Doodles a lovely and quirky illustration blog (as can be seen by the lovely illustration above). A place for Berlin hipsters and ex-pats to discover new words and see hilarious drawings come to life through Carla’s pencil. Carla draws German words and phrases which are unusual, amusing and fun to illustrate. When Carla returns to Australia she is going to get her own dog, maybe even a pug :) .
