Okay dogs, pups and pooches, it’s time to remind your human to mark the RSPCA Million Paws Walk in their calendar. However, if you aren’t a dog or don’t have one, don’t worry, this event is for everyone who is passionate about raising money for a good cause. Plus there are always plenty of dogs to pat and adore on the day. So here is a quick low-down on the day and how you can get involved.

When:

The date you need to mark in your diaries is 20 May 2012.

Where:

Currently there are 94 organised walks taking place in capital cities and regional centres across Australia. Go to the Million Paws Walk 2012 website and select your state or territory to find the location closest to you. If you can’t find a convenient location there is still time to organise your own Million Paws mini-Walk to raise funds for your area. If you’d like to do this then start up your own Million Paws Walk Community Walk fundraising page (details below) and email mpw@rspcansw.org.au so the RSPCA can promote your walk on their website.

Registration:

Registration is now open on the website. Once you select your state/territory and your walk location you will see ‘Register Now’ buttons that will allow you to start filling in your details. You can also register on the day but it will cost a few dollars more and you will have to do it with your dog who will be keen to get inside! Cress and Eddie have no patience for forms or money transactions :) Dogs in kiddy poolPool stop MPW 2011

If you are interested in registering a corporate team there are separate links on the walk location pages with information on how to do it.

Fundraising:

Obviously just through registering and attending you are raising money that goes towards vital programs, services and campaigns undertaken by the RSPCA. But if you would like to do some fundraising the Million Paws Walk website has the ability for you to setup your own ‘fundraising page’. This page can be personalised and sent to your family, friends and colleagues to let them know what you are doing and enable you to accept donations online. To set up a page select your state/territory on the website and look for the Fundraising (Raising Money) tabs.

Activities on the day

Depending on your location there will be various talks, stands, samples, shows and food available on the day. I have only attended the Sydney event at Homebush where they have a Pet Expo area that we loved spending time in before and after the walk. Last year Cress and Eddie sampled Doggylato, got their photos taken, had a health check and listened to some music after they had trotted around the walk course.

Our whole family will be walking this year at Homebush in Sydney. At least this time I won’t be 8 months pregnant! So we hope to see you there for what will be a great day!

Below we have included the 2012 Million Paws Walk video which is pretty cute! (If the video doesn’t load refresh the page).
